How to use this table

  • The shade claim holds up as far as it has been tested: no measurable colour-match or colour-stability difference against multi-shade layering — but on four trials, 263 restorations, low certainty, and nothing past 12 months.
  • What the trials did not test is where the tradeoffs sit. Translucency is the highest measured, radiopacity the lowest, and modulus roughly half that of the highest-filled conventional composites.
  • Read those numbers against the case: high translucency is a liability over a dark or endodontically treated prep, and low radiopacity matters most where you will be reading margins on bitewings.
  • Polish is the lever that is entirely yours. Finishing protocol changed staining more than filler type did, and a multistep aluminium-oxide system is what gets the surface under the 0.2 µm plaque threshold.

Clinical rows report each randomised trial's own result for its own restoration type and follow-up, and carry the review's GRADE certainty rather than restating it as fact. Bench rows come from one laboratory that measured sixteen commercial composites side by side under ISO 4049, so the values are comparable to each other but are not manufacturer figures.
